Margi Nuttall

Margi Nuttal is a ceramicist creating large forms defined by their clean lines, natural palette and distinct textures. Margi’s 20 years of clay making experience layered with formal training results in a practice of object making which is generously shared for use in the daily rituals of our lives.

Margi works from the lush Waikato, her studio grounded between the vegetable garden and the orchard trees. Margi has 20 years of clay making experience which are layered onto formal training resulting in a practice of object making which is generously shared for use in the daily rituals of our lives.

Margi experiences clay as a demanding but wonderful creative conspirator. The process of entering the studio, breathing out and centering into this sensual dance is part of life's daily rhythm for Margi. Maker and material join together to bring objects of grace and beauty into our everyday lives.

The resulting forms of vases, jugs, bowls and lights are defined by clean lines as an expression of volume through the maker’s hand. The pieces are both quiet and strong; clear in their purpose and assured in their crafting. The paired back forms allow the natural palette and texture of the clay to speak whilst displaying the marks of the maker's process on their surface. Made in series, the works combine in dialogue; the space between and within are highlighted.
