The New Noah II ~ A Place to Be II

Billie Culy, The New Noah II, 2021

Inkjet print and acrylic on 308gsm Hahnemuehle photo rag cotton

Framed 610 x 610 mm

‘A Place to Be II’ sees a continuation of notions from ‘A Place to Be’, reincarnated through a playful reimagining. This body of work embodies a gradual process of breathing new life into past prints that Culy did not wish to leave behind. Continuing with her exploration into dreamlike compositions of mixed mediums, Culy has slowly layered fresh paint, textures and colours; her gestures and palette carrying these past works into the present.

Napier-based Billie Culy is a multi-disciplinary artist, working primarily in photography, painting and sculptural work. Attempting to reconfigure the treatment of these mediums, Culy creates imagined worlds, a sense of escapism, exploring notions of memory, nostalgia and the importance we place on our surroundings. Her works are both records of places and objects, as well as carefully composed explorations of pigment, light and texture.
