My Grandfather's Tree

Max Lamb is a British artist who lives and works in London, teaching at the Royal College of Arts where he also studied. My Grandfathers Tree presents a project undertaken by Max Lamb and his friend John Turnball, which in where they document a gradual felling of a giant Ash tree from his grandfather's property.

Max explains "I wanted my Grandfather's tree to survive beyond its rooted life, to maintain the story told by its 187 annual growth rings - it's age, the climatic conditions in which it grew, the years of heavy rainfall or drought, even its geographical orientation. We cut the tree at regular intervals from top down, respecting natural divisions within the structure such as knots, branches and crotches."
